Betting Terms Explained

Betting sites use a lot of their own vocabulary. Below are the words you will meet most often at Serbian bookmakers, without jargon.

Tickets and bets

  • Ticket: the list of selections and the stake you submit as one bet.
  • Single: a bet on one outcome.
  • Accumulator: several selections on one ticket; all must win. See accumulators.
  • System bet: a ticket split into combinations, so it can pay even if some selections lose.
  • Live bet: a bet placed while the match is being played. See in-play betting.
  • Cash-out: closing a bet early for the amount the operator offers at that moment.

Prices and markets

  • Odds: the number your stake is multiplied by if the bet wins; 2.50 on 100 dinars returns 250. See odds explained.
  • 1X2: home win, draw or away win.
  • Handicap: a head start given to one side to even out the contest.
  • Over/under: a bet on the total of goals or points being above or below a line. See betting markets.
